METROPOLIS - AN EXPERIMENTAL FILM PHOTOGRAPHY SERIES
Dream is a collage of surreal images. They are based on one of
my dreams - being transported to a dystopian city in the sky.
Process
At that point of time, I just started picking up film and was exposed to the dark room. Hence, I wanted to experiment with analogue photography and printing. Through this project, I was trying to understand its tools and processes.
Being familiar with photoshop, I was also curious about photo manipulation. Therefore, I wanted to also see if I can ‘photoshop’ manually.
This series is entirely manipulated in the darkroom by cutting, stitching, layering of the film strips. I also played with multiple exposure time, dodging and burning to achieve consistency of tones within the individual print (to make the different stitched elements cohesive with the original ones) and across the series.
Through this, I was able to create these fantastical and whimsical compositions.
